The initial line-up consisted of vocalist Mick Jagger, guitarist Keith Richards, guitarist Brian Jones, bassist Dick Taylor, drummer Tony Chapman and pianist Ian Stewart, with Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts forming the rhythm section.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2022 \u00a0First Singles and Album<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1962, the group played an eight-month residency at a London club, which caught the attention of their first label. This led to the release of their first singles, <em>\u201cCome On,\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cI Wanna Be Your Man.\u201d<\/em> These charting singles allowed The Rolling Stones to book shows outside of London and eventually resulted in their 1964 self-titled debut. <strong>The Rolling Stones<\/strong> album featured mostly R&amp;B cover tunes, and one Jagger- and Richards-penned track, <em>\u201cTell Me (You\u2019re Coming Back).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2022 \u00a0Second and Third Albums<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Their sophomore effort, 12 x 5, also came out in 1964 and contained their first UK hit, <em>\u201cIt\u2019s All Over Now.\u201d<\/em> This was followed by a commercially successful album entitled, <strong>The Rolling Stones No. 2<\/strong> in 1965.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022<strong> \u00a0Satisfaction<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Their next record, <strong>Out of Our Heads<\/strong>, included many more original compositions than their previous work. Its most popular single, <em>\u201c(I Can\u2019t Get No) Satisfaction,\u201d<\/em> was the band\u2019s first international hit. 1966\u2019s Aftermath was The Rolling Stones\u2019 first album to feature songs written only by Jagger and Richards. Notable tracks were <em>\u201cHave You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cPaint It, Black.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2022 \u00a0Alleged Drug Use and More Albums<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1967, the band released <strong>Between the Buttons<\/strong>, which spawned the tunes, <em>\u201cLet\u2019s Spend the Night Together\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cRuby Tuesday.\u201d<\/em> That same year, a tabloid newspaper targeted the Rolling Stones in an article that sparked the interest of the authorities to their alleged drug use. Jagger, Richards and Jones were later charged with drug offenses. This was followed by the more psychedelic album, <strong>Their Satanic Majesties Request<\/strong>, which included the single, <em>\u201cIn Another Land.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022<strong> \u00a0\u00abBeggars Banquet\u00bb and a Circus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1968 saw the release of the single, <strong>\u201cJumpin\u2019 Jack Flash\u201d<\/strong> and the album, <strong>Beggars Banquet.<\/strong> This more bluesy record produced the single, <em>\u201cSympathy for the Devil.\u201d<\/em> Two circus-themed concerts starring John Lennon, The Who and the Rolling Stones themselves were also filmed that year, and would later be released as the movie, <strong>\u201cThe Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2022 \u00a0Brian Jones&#8217; Death<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The next year, Brian Jones left the band due to his drug problems, and was replaced by Mick Taylor. Less than a month later, on July 3rd, 1969 Jones was found drowned in his swimming pool. Just two days later, the Stones performed at London\u2019s Hyde Park, and debuted the single, <em>\u201cHonky Tonk Women.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2022 \u00a0Gimme Shelter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That December, the album <strong>Let It Bleed<\/strong>, featuring the song, <em>\u201cGimme Shelter,\u201d<\/em> was released. The group also played the infamous Altamont Free Concert, footage of which appeared in the 1970 documentary, \u201cGimme Shelter.\u201d The live album, <strong>Get Yer Ya-Yas Out! The Rolling Stones in Concert<\/strong>, also came out that year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2022 \u00a0Rolling Stones Records<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1971\u2019s <strong>Sticky Fingers<\/strong> was their first record on their own label, Rolling Stones Records. It marked Taylor\u2019s first release with the band and generated the hits, <em>\u201cWild Horses\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cBrown Sugar.\u201d<\/em> The next year, the record, <strong>Exile on Main Street<\/strong>, hit number one on the charts. It was followed by <strong>Goats Head Soup<\/strong>, a less successful effort that still had a hit with the song, <em>\u201cAngie.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2022 \u00a0Ronnie Wood<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite the success of the 1974 album, <strong>It\u2019s Only Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll<\/strong>, Mick Taylor quit the Rolling Stones. The first album featuring his replacement, Ronnie Wood, was 1976\u2019s <strong>Black and Blue<\/strong>. While trying to finish their next live album, 1977\u2019s <strong>Love You Live<\/strong>, Keith Richards faced drug charges that delayed the recording sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022<strong> \u00a0\u00abMiss You\u00bb and Mounting Tensions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the late 70s, the Stones began to experience poor sales and reviews. The faster-paced rock and roll of their 1978 album, <strong>Some Girls<\/strong>, reignited their popularity, especially with the help of the single, <em>\u201cMiss You.\u201d<\/em> However, mounting tensions between Jagger and Richards affected the recording of their next effort, 1980\u2019s <strong>Emotional Rescue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2022 \u00a0Touring<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The huge American tour that followed the release of the 1981 album, <strong>Tattoo You<\/strong>, was later documented in the 1983 film, \u201cLet\u2019s Spend the Night Together.\u201d Their European tour of the following year saw the addition of another member to the Stones\u2019 line-up, piano player Chuck Leavell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022<strong> \u00a0Solo Work, Another Death, Another Replacement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the release of the 1983 album, <strong>Undercover<\/strong>, solo projects increased tensions between Jagger and Richards. As a result, 1986\u2019s <strong>Dirty Work<\/strong> contained many more Richards-penned tracks than usual. Nevertheless, the pair reconciled after the death of Ian Stewart and the Stones released <strong>Steel Wheels<\/strong> in 1989. Bill Wyman retired shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2022 \u00a0More Music and More Shows<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Grammy-winning <strong>Voodoo Lounge<\/strong> would be Darryl Jones\u2019 first album as Wyman\u2019s replacement. This was followed by the 1997 album, <strong>Bridges to Babylon<\/strong>, which received mixed reviews. <strong>A Bigger Bang<\/strong> was released in 2005, with shows from the ensuing tour recorded and eventually seen in the 2008 film, \u201cShine a Light.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2022 \u00a0Legacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Their unique sound and lively shows have made the Rolling Stones one of the biggest rock bands of all time. The fuzz tone came in handy so I could give a shape to what the horns were supposed to do. But the fuzz tone had never been heard before anywhere, and that&#8217;s the sound that caught everybody&#8217;s imagination. Next thing I know, we&#8217;re listening to ourselves in Minnesota somewhere on the radio, \u00abHit of the Week,\u00bb and we didn&#8217;t even know Andrew had put the thing out! At first I was mortified. As far as I was concerned that was just the dub. Ten days on the road and it&#8217;s number one nationally! The record of the summer of &#8217;65. So I&#8217;m not arguing.
