Miller adopted the name soon after, even claiming that the original man was a hoax.&nbsp;Upon his arrival in Chicago, he set about recording a body of work that remains unequalled in blues history for its synthesis of musical and lyrical mastery.<\/p>\n<address style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u00abYeah, we know these sounds. These sounds belong to one man.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000080;\"> One man from Mississippi, USA. &nbsp;One man known as the wizard of the harp.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000080;\"> One man known as the menace. (His passport gave his birthdate as 1909, but 1899 and 1894 have also been suggested.) Sonny Boy had traveled with Johnson Turing Robert\u2019s brief delta stardom in the 1930s. They were regular performers on street corners and in the juke joints of Helena and Elaine, where Robert\u2019s hit records like \u201cTerraplane Blues\u201d were well known, and passed through Marvell on the way to Helena. Robert lived with a woman and her son.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\">After Robert Johnson was killed in 1938 \u2013allegedly poisoned by a jealous husband- Sonny Boy teamed up with Robert\u2019s stepson, Robert Jr. Lockwood, and kept Johnson\u2019s music alive. Around 1941 they began regular&nbsp; broadcasts on the Interstate Grocery Company\u2019s <em>King Biscuit Time<\/em> show on KFFA in Helena. Sonny Boy blew harp and Robert Jr. played electric guitar. It was the first time many delta residents \u2013and that might have included Muddy Waters- had ever heard the instrument. Sonny Boy\u2019s singing became so popular in Arkansas and his native Mississippi that the company put out a new product: Sonny Boy Cornmeal (still sold in the South) . . .<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"right\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><em>This Wheel\u2019s On Fire&nbsp; [1993]<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"right\">\u00f7&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; \u00f7&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; \u00f7&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; \u00f7<\/h6>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u00a4&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GZXMWklGf84\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">James Cotton &nbsp;<\/span><\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;[1935-2017]<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Born in Tunica, Mississippi, in 1935, Cotton fell under the spell of the legendary Sonny Boy Williamson at the<a href=\"http:\/\/jamescottonsuperharp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-42587\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eoisabi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/J_Cotton.jpg\" alt=\"J_Cotton\" width=\"142\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/englishroam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/J_Cotton.jpg 142w, https:\/\/englishroam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/J_Cotton-125x150.jpg 125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 142px) 100vw, 142px\" \/><\/a>&nbsp;tender age of nine and quickly became his prot\u00e9g\u00e9. Over the course of six years, Cotton lived, worked and traveled with Williamson, eventually assimilating many of his signature licks. Cotton was in Memphis in the early \u201850s and landed a gig with Howlin\u2019 Wolf, recording<em> \u201cSaddle My Pony\u201d<\/em> at Sun Studios. His breakthrough <em>\u201cCotton Crop Blues\u201d<\/em> was released in 1954, and not long after, he began his 12-year association with Muddy Waters, when Waters passed through town looking for a harp player. Cotton landed the gig, and worked with Muddy on the road and in the studio, recording many of the seminal Chess sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When Cotton eventually left the Muddy Waters Band in 1966 to strike out on his own, he secured a contract with Verve and recorded four albums for them. With the Muddy Waters Band on his resume, Cotton was able to cross over into the burgeoning blues-rock market of the day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cotton signed with Alligator Records and in \u201884 released the successful <strong>\u201cHigh Compression.\u201d<\/strong> His next album, <strong>\u201cLive From Chicago&#8230;Mr. Superharp Himself!,\u201d<\/strong> came out in 1986 and was&nbsp;his second album on Alligator.&nbsp;In 1987, Blind Pig released <strong>\u201cTake Me Back,\u201d<\/strong> an album that returned Cotton to his roots and earned a Grammy nomination.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After signing with the Verve label in \u201994 and releasing \u201d<strong>Living the Blues,\u201d<\/strong> Cotton was awarded a Grammy for the 1996 album, <strong>\u201cDeep in the Blues.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cBaby, Don\u2019t You Tear My Clothes,\u201d<\/strong> was Cotton\u2019s third solo release on the Telarc label. He joined the label in 2000 with the release of <strong>\u201cFire Down Under the Hill,\u201d<\/strong> followed by <strong>\u201c35th Anniversary Blues Jam,\u201d<\/strong> two years later.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2010 Cotton released <strong>\u201cGiant,\u201d<\/strong> for Alligator Records, and also celebrates his 66th year as a professional Bluesman. In June 2010, Cotton was honored at New York\u2019s Lincoln Center, where his friends Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins, Taj Mahal, Shemekia Copeland and others paid tribute in an all-star concert. There James Cotton played to yet another sold-out venue, with fans cheering the man known worldwide as <em>\u201cMr. Superharp,\u201d<\/em> an undisputed giant of the blues<\/p>\n<h6 id=\"watch-headline-title\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\u25ca &nbsp;&#8216;Dealing With The Devil&#8217;
