Using an array of techniques and styles, illustrators evoke stories and meaning in a variety of mediums, from editorial illustration in magazines and newspapers, to comics books, to activist media. And as their tasks over the years have become less informational and more expressive, their individual voice as artists becomes all the more critical and beautiful, revealing an exciting and awe-inspiring age of illustration \u00a0\u2193<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZPQ-8Kty8X4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: right;\">\u2022\u2192\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sTi5SNgxE3U\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Universal Arts of\u00a0Graphic Design<\/a>\u00a0\u21d0<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/whereswaldo.com\/index.html#home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8255\" title=\"Waldo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eoisabi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Waldo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"198\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/englishroam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Waldo.gif 198w, https:\/\/englishroam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Waldo-150x143.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 198px) 100vw, 198px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>Where&#8217;s Wally?<\/strong><\/em>, published in the United States and Canada as\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/whereswaldo.com\/index.html#home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Where&#8217;s Waldo<\/a>?<\/strong><\/em>, is a series of children&#8217;s books created by British illustrator\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Martin Handford\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Martin_Handford\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martin Handford<\/a>.<\/strong> The books consist of a series of detailed double-page spread illustrations depicting dozens or more people doing a variety of amusing things at a given location. Readers are challenged to find a character named Wally hidden in the group. Wally&#8217;s distinctive red-and-white striped shirt, bobble hat, and glasses make him slightly easier to recognise, but many illustrations contain \u00ab<a title=\"Red herring\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Red_herring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">red herrings<\/a>\u00bb involving deceptive use of red-and-white striped objects. Later entries in the long-running book series added other targets for readers to find in each illustration.The books have also inspired a TV show, comic strip and a series of video games.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8216;<em><strong>Where&#8217;s Wally?&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is the title of the first book in the\u00a0series published in 1987: Wally travels to everyday places, where he sends postcards to the reader (=the pictures in the book), and the reader must locate him in the postcard &#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Wally series is quite evocative of an earlier children&#8217;s book titled \u21d2<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vintagechildrensbooksmykidloves.com\/2009\/08\/wheres-wallace.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00ab<strong>Where&#8217;s Wallace?<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00ab\u21d0 (by\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Hilary Knight\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hilary_Knight\">Hilary Knight<\/a><\/strong>), in which a red-headed orangutan escapes from the zoo and \u00abhides\u00bb in highly detailed picture panoramas, including beach, department store, circus, stadium, and museum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2207\u00a0 \u00a0German film director <strong>Werner Herzog<\/strong> thinks aloud on Wally&#8217;s crowded settings \u00a0\u21d3<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EvWh6PMi9Ek\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Where to begin? \u00a0Top-left corner . . .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He is\u00a0somewhere in this noisy chaotic morass of society &#8211; his own fellow traveller, <strong>Waldo<\/strong>, a man unstuck from place to place, who travels the world on foot. His only lifeline to his friends and family, a litany of dreary picture postcards sent from arbitrary locations the world over . His postcards do nothing to convey the humanity, it&#8217;s a madness of all those adventures. For that, we must go find him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Waldo leads, drinking, scattered behind him, shedding a bake of objects as he goes. \u00a0That story to cease leaving ten are a series of transmissions from the past, sent in a code we cannot decipher. Is that a scroll or merely a rolled-up towel? After trying so hard to find the scroll, I&#8217;ll be sure we can handle a real answer. Occasionally, Waldo is all but impossible to ferret out. So<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vintagechildrensbooksmykidloves.com\/2009\/08\/wheres-wallace.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-8254 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eoisabi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/wheres-w.gif\" alt=\"wheres w\" width=\"111\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/englishroam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/wheres-w.gif 111w, https:\/\/englishroam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/wheres-w-70x150.gif 70w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 111px) 100vw, 111px\" \/><\/a>metimes it seems like he&#8217;s barely trying.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the <strong>ski slopes<\/strong>, I find him almost immediately. At the<strong> sea,<\/strong> I hunt until I am mad, and yet Waldo does not reveal himself to me. Oh! There he is! Hello, my little friend. Wait a moment. Who is that man disappeared? I have seen him before&#8230; you see, pursuing Waldo from place to place, country to country, someone <em>must<\/em> warn our hero. That is everyone so preoccupied this at the <strong>airport<\/strong>,\u00a0setting mister man at the hour right before them. Perhaps they&#8217;re experiencing a collective nightmare of impending disaster. Who is Waldo&#8217;s pursuer meeting this at the<strong> museum<\/strong>? If only I could warn Waldo of this conspiracy. His na\u00efvety will be his undoing, as it will be for each of us in term.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Why all this travel, this search for Waldo &#8211; but what is Waldo searching for? Perhaps he&#8217;s not searching at all, but running from something. Does this man even want to be found, or in searching for Waldo did we really find ourselves? No, probably not.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This has been <em><strong>&#8216;Where&#8217;s\u00a0Waldo&#8217;.<\/strong><\/em> I&#8217;m <strong>Werner Herzog<\/strong>. The character first appeared in Marvel Spotlight #32 (February 1977), and 50 issues of an ongoing series titled Spider-Woman followed. The French artist also contributed to the look of films such as <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">&#8216;Alien&#8217;, &#8216;Willow&#8217;\u00a0<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">and &#8216;<\/span><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Tron.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among his most famous works are the Western comic series <em>Blueberry<\/em> he co-created with writer Jean-Michel Charlier, one of the first Western anti-heroes to appear in comics. Under the pseudonym Moebius he created a wide range of science fiction and and fantasy comics in a highly imaginative and surreal almost abstract style, the most famous of which are <em>Arzach, the Airtight Garage of Jerry Cornelius<\/em>, and<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=c4Vkyzrs1Fk#t=101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em> The Incal<\/em><\/a><\/strong>. <em>Blueberry<\/em> was adapted for the screen in 2004 by French director Jan Kounen.
